Big bother

In the news today is a story about organ donation.  It seems that Wales now has a policy of assuming that everbody is happy to donate their organs unless they ‘opt out’.

For many years, the system has been that hospitals/doctors had to check for, and find, an organ-donor card before they could remove organs from a recently deceased person.  For many years, there have been arguments made that many valid organs were lost to the transplant pool because the card giving permission was not found.

You just never know, do you

In my last post, I told you I wasn’t ready to move on – that I wanted my old partner back.

Life has a habit of sneaking up on you.

I also told you about the date that never happened, because the other party was ‘unwell’ and cancelled.

The unready

A quick recap for those who are new here: my partner passed away in January of this year, after what can only be described as a long sequence of illnesses.  There were multiple conditions over the years, and I spent the last 15-20 years as my partners carer.
Since losing my partner, (and I know how this sounds) I have begun to enjoy life, found a job, bought a new car, and signed up on a dating website.

Life is now good(ish).

Annoying

As I’ve mentioned more than once on here, I like to add the email addresses of SPAMmers to every SPAM list I can find.    I consider it to be a public service.

Not the standard stuff – there’s just too much of that.  No, it’s the ‘clever’ ones, that pretend, or claim, not to be SPAM.  The ones that add you to a mailing list just because you exist.

Well, I’ve just got an email that is very annoying, because I can’t add them to the list!

Just tell me the price, for pities sake!

I need to insure my dog.  You all know my lovely little Toby.

Since getting Toby, he’s been insured by the PDSA, at a very reasonable rate – because my partner and I were on benefits.  Now that my partner is no longer with us, and I’m working, I don’t qualify for the insurance.  So I need to find somebody to cover him.

And that’s where the problem comes in.

Annoying

I’m letting off steam about an old chestnut again.  Oh, hello again, too.  Sorry for the large gap between posts, been busy living.  And working.

OK.  For a while now, I’ve fancied the idea of a large, family, holiday.  As you know, I had a holiday on my own last year, before the world ended – and while I was looking for somewhere to have that holiday, I saw so many places to take this holiday that the idea stuck in my head.

Barking up the wrong tree

I got an email today from a website called bark.com.  Their business is ‘lead generation’, and they want me to use their services…

‘Lead generation’ is basically a service where they charge for a list of potential clients.  In their email, they say that they are different to other services as they ‘check that leads are relevant’.

Sounds great, doesn’t it?

Home straight

I know, I haven’t posted anything in a month – I’m afraid I haven’t had the time.   In two days time I will have been employed for four weeks, and I’ve been working hard.

My contract is only for 17 hours a week, but I’ve been averaging double that, and… well… let’s be honest, here – I’m not used to working, at all!
Caring is a full-time thing, yes, and it can be very hard work at times – but you almost always have the option of saying ‘I’ll do that later.’  You rarely have to set an alarm, you just get up when you wake up – and then wait for your caree to wake up and need something.

Now, I have to be at work by a set time, and I have to stay there until my work is done!  Can you imagine that?  No more doing what I feel when I feel, oh no.  No, I have to do what I’m told, the way I’m told, when I’m told…

Beyond the corner

Following on from my last post, today was the day I took my driving test.  Booked for 11.30, I got a call at 10 asking if I could change it to 1.15 – so I took the dog for a walk in the rain.

I arrived at one, deliberately early, and then sat in the canteen for half an hour, waiting.  Gave me chance to look at the food on offer, anyway – and it looks as if I can eat a decent meal for a couple of pounds, which is good.

Around the corner

I make no secret of the fact that the last few months have been… bad.

I’ve had little or no energy to do anything.   Strangely, the first month or so after losing my partner were easier than the last three – which I can only guess is because it hadn’t really sunk in.
Looking back, now, I can only remember a tiny part of those days…
